In the latest episode of the Casual Collisions podcast, Naomi Timperley, Innovation Director at Merseyway, shares her insights on how casual collisions and meaningful networking can lead to transformative personal and professional growth.
“My purpose is to help people. I love helping people through business and fostering connections,” Naomi begins, setting the tone for a conversation centered on authentic, people-first networking.

What Are Casual Collisions?
Casual collisions are those spontaneous, unplanned interactions that can unexpectedly shape our lives and careers. Naomi describes them as the spark behind many of her most important relationships and professional milestones.
One such moment? Meeting her husband while working overseas, a chance encounter that blossomed into a lifelong relationship. “It was a casual collision,” she says, highlighting how even deeply personal connections can stem from these spontaneous moments.
Building Networks from the Ground Up
Naomi also reflects on her involvement in a founders group that began informally with just three people. Today, it has grown into a thriving network of 66 members. “It’s built on common ground, trust, and loyalty,” she explains. This grassroots initiative is a perfect example of how meaningful networking can evolve from simple beginnings.
Mentorship That Lasts
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Naomi led a mentoring program for women entrepreneurs. “We had 114 women take part, and many of them are still in touch today,” she shares. The program’s success demonstrates how casual collisions and meaningful networking can create long-lasting impact, especially when built on shared purpose and support.
A People-First Approach to Innovation
Naomi’s approach to networking is refreshingly genuine. “When I attend events, I’m not just there to talk about my business. I want to learn about others and see how I can help,” she says. This mindset is central to her role at Merseyway, where she helps businesses grow through innovation and collaboration.
“My purpose is to help people. I love helping people through business and fostering connections,” Naomi begins, setting the tone for a conversation centered on authentic, people-first networking.
